I was out for a run with the pups this week. It was early, it was cold and it was snowing. When we started, I was having a hard time and thoughts flowing through my head, like, ‘what the crap am I doing out here???’

As the run progressed and we warmed up, we found our groove and had a pretty good run.

I have many things that drive me and keep me doing crazy things like these cold and snowy runs, but one thing in particular that helps the most is setting my intentions.

Every night, before bed, I follow a routine of planning my run. I check the weather, plan a distance, plan a route, and layout all my gear I will need. I set my intentions before I go to bed.

What I have found is that when I do this, I wake up in the morning and my mind and body expect to go on that run. We don’t even question it, the intention has been set so we do it.

How can this idea be used for other things we want to do? Do you want to go to the gym? Do you want to spend time on that dream project? Do you want to stop a bad habit?

Set your intentions every night. Write them down, set up the equipment or the clothes you might need, set out your paper or have your document open and ready to go. Write down your top 3 things to get done the next day.

Make this part of your nightly routine.
